Sabres Defeat Maple Leafs in Shootout After Tight 2–2 Battle

The Sabres edged the Maple Leafs in a shootout after a tightly contested matchup that finished 2-2 through regulation and OT. Strong goaltending from both sides and a physical pace kept the game close from start to finish before Buffalo sealed the win in the shootout.
First Period
Buffalo struck first early in the game. At 2:01 of the first period, defensemen Owen Power opened the scoring with a wrist shot, assisted by Zach Benson and Sam Carrick, giving the Sabres a 1-0 lead.
Toronto responded midway through the period when Dakota Joshua scored at 6:09, tying the game to 1-1 off of a pass from Nicholas Robertson.
The remainder of the period featured heavy physical play, including a fight between Luke Schenn and Joshua, but neither team managed another goal before intermission.
Second Period
Toronto grabbed its first lead early in the second period. Just 53 seconds in, Max Domi scored on a wrist shot, assisted by William Nylander, and Matthew Knies, making it 2-1.
Buffalo responded later in the period when Jack Quinn buried a wrist shot at 11:21, with assists from Noah Ostlund and Ryan Mcleod, tying the game once again.
Despite several chances from both teams, including strong pressuew from Buffalo's top line, the game remained deadlocked at 2-2 heading into the third.
Third Period
The final period saw both teams generate opportunities but neither side could break the tie. Goaltenders Alex Lyon and Joseph Woll made key saves throughout the period.
Toronto came close late, but Buffalo's defense held strong, forcing the game to OT.
Overtime and Shootout
Overtime featured chances for both teams, including opportunities from Tage Thompson and John Tavares, but neither could convert.
In the shootout, Buffalo took control:
Jack Quinn scored for the sabres
Alex Tuch followed.
Toronto was unable to respond.
Buffalo ultimately secured the shootout victory, capping off a hard-fought game between the Atlantic Division rivals.
